Ashlea Albertson, a member of Tony Stewart’s dirt racing team, was a passenger involved in the collision. An Indianapolis-area TQ Midget driver was part of a two-car collision on I-65 in Jackson County, Indiana.
The Indiana State Police are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into a suspected road rage incident that resulted in the tragic loss of Ashlea Albertson, a TQ Midget driver from Tony Stewart Racing.
Ashlea Albertson, a racer based in Indianapolis who was a part of Tony Stewart Racing, passed away following injuries sustained in a crash on Interstate 65 on Friday morning. Both Stewart and her family confirmed the tragic news. Albertson was 24 years old.
At the age of 24, Albertson was a passenger in a GMC Terrain on Friday around 11:30 a.m. on I-65 in Jackson County, just south of Seymour, Indiana. During the incident, a man driving a Malibu pulled up alongside the Terrain. According to authorities, video footage captured by an individual in another nearby vehicle reveals that both drivers accelerated, not allowing each other to pass. The situation escalated when the Malibu driver changed lanes, resulting in the Terrain’s driver losing control of their SUV and leading to a collision, as reported by ISP.
During the incident, Albertson was ejected from the Terrain as it rolled over. Meanwhile, the Malibu exited the interstate and came to a stop in a nearby field.
Albertson was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she tragically passed away later. The two drivers involved, along with a passenger in the Malibu, received treatment for injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening. Both drivers have undergone blood tests, and toxicology reports are still pending.
Blood tests were administered to both drivers, and the results of the toxicology screenings are currently awaited. Following the completion of the Indiana State Police’s investigation, the outcomes will be submitted to the Jackson County prosecutor’s office for assessment, determining whether charges will be pursued.

Todd Albertson, her father and crew chief, proudly attests that over her 11-year racing career, Albertson consistently secured positions within the top 10 and never failed to do so.
Enthralled by racing since the age of 10, Albertson’s passion drove her to envision a future as a professional racing driver. Her aspiration was to advocate for women’s presence in the predominantly male-dominated realm of racing. Tragically, Albertson and her fiancé, Jake, were set to celebrate their wedding in March of the following year.
